- This 1954 photograph of the southwest (back) corner of Memorial Union is taken from street level and shows part of the south wing. Prominent are a stone retaining wall, the walls of the lower terrace and the west corner of the south wing. The back (south) and the side (west) walls of the original building rise on the left. Corners are emphasized, as is the layering effect in which the building and landscaping rise above the street.
