A special weather alert describing the intense weather front that swept across the northern great plains on November 10-12, 1998. The intense low pressure system produced one of the greatest mass migrations of waterfowl and the largest migration of Sandhill Cranes recorded in Iowa. The most unusual reports were of 500 or more Sandhill Cranes moving south near Council Bluffs. Additionally, tens of thousands of Snow Geese were reported throughout Iowa, far east of their usual migration path. Also of note were the thousands of that ducks were reported statewide when there had been few present in the preceding weeks.

Field notes and map from Michael C. Newlon covered bird sightings in the Iowa City area, winter 1974-1975. The map showed the locations of the Hawkeye Wildlife Area, the Coralville Reservoir and Dam, and Cone March relative to Iowa City. Some sightings extended into March, and were also recorded on the Mississippi River between Davenport and the locks. These items were undated with years, but they were used as supporting documentation for the Iowa Ornithologists' Union Quarterly field report of winter 1974-1975.
