Iowa distributional checklist Item Info

A report compiled by the members of the Committee of Bird Distribution in response to growing opinions that the current state bird list for Iowa may be misleading due to the fact that gives the status of each species on a statewide basis. The committee has divided the state into 9 sections for a more accurate representation of when and where certain species of birds are observed. Then, based on information collected from IOU members from the past 15 years, the species were classified by when they were reported in the state, including summer resident or visitor, winter resident or visitor, spring or fall migrant, permanent resident, casual, or accidental. Also attached is the resulting checklist of each bird found in Iowa listed by species, state location, and classification as well as a list of several species that have been seen with enough frequency to warrant inclusion to the Iowa check-list.
