- Printed in black ink on white-faced heavy cardstock. Depicts candidates of the “Whitis Ticket” for the 1969 municipal election in Waterloo. Image of Ada Tredwell, candidate for East Side Councilman at Large, has been cut out and is missing. Handwritten election returns in blue ballpoint pen, presumably made by a Whitis Ticket staffer on election night, 1969, at reverse. This was the first all-black municipal election ticket in Waterloo history. No candidate won election. Lindbergh Whitis placed third for mayor with 1,139 votes. Lindbergh Whitis – July 2, 1928 – February 29, 2000. Mayoral candidate, employed by John Deere and Rath Packing Co. He also owned many businesses, including Lindbergh Asphalt Co., a limousine service, a lawn care service, the Joy Motel and a bail/bond service. Ada Treadwell – October 22, 1916 – August 30, 2008. East Side Councilman at large candidate, employed by Rath Packing Co., John Deere Tractor Works, African Palace, later named the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. Founder of the Eastside Citizens Committee. James Andrerson Jr – June 21, 1931 – June 7, 2008. Councilman Fourth Ward candidate. Employed by Rath Packing Co., Waterloo Greyhound Park. Was a member of the Waterloo Human Rights Commission, NAACP Freedom Dinner fund chairman, Waterloo Low Housing Commission, and Family Service League. Tommie Henderson – June 27, 1920 – December 13, 1975. Riverfront Commissioner candidate. Employed by Rath Packing Co., served in the army during WWII. Was a charter member of Knights of Phythias, president of the East Side Citizens Committee, and past Post Commander of VFW 9130. John McGee – August 23, 1932 – February 19, 2001. Councilman Third Ward candidate. Served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Employed by John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works. Dr. Warren Nash – December 28, 1923 – March 27, 1979. Park Commissioner candidate. Married Martha Nash. Served in the Navy during WWII. Began practicing medicine in Waterloo August 1954. Was the only black physician at the time. Was a member of the Black Hawk County and Iowa Medical Societies. Was on the staff at Allen Memorial Hospital and the courtesy staffs at both St. Francis and Schoitz Memorial hospitals. President of the Black Hawk County Branch of the NAACP for six years – 1962-1968. Was on the board of the Afro-American Community Broadcasting Corp.
