The King’s Daughters thanked citizens for donations that helped fund a successful operation for a young man, Sam West, at Mercy Hospital. Mr. T.E. Barton of Washington, D.C., returned home after visiting Iowa. The Negro Lyceum held a spelling bee and declamatory contest, while local churches planned fairs and oyster suppers. Reports from Sioux City, Mt. Pleasant, Clinton, Newton, Colfax, Ottumwa, Albia, Cedar Rapids, and Moline featured revivals, rallies, concerts, deaths, and civic progress. Editorials praised Taft’s victory, defended Black voters’ loyalty, and reported Nelson Crews’ speech at Western University, and other topics.
