- Contents include but not limited to extensive Des Moines social, educational, and church news. The Iowa-Nebraska Baptist Association met successfully, with speeches by Dr. J.H. Garnett and Rev. D.A. Holmes. The A.M.E. Conference at Keokuk reappointed many ministers and transferred Rev. W.S. Brooks to Tennessee. Numerous social gatherings, weddings, and club meetings filled the week, including luncheons for visiting guests from Keosauqua and Macon. The Negro Lyceum discussed John Greenleaf Whittier’s writings and planned a public program at St. Paul A.M.E. Editorials demanded fair city employment for Black citizens under the Des Moines Plan and urged loyalty to the Republican Party. National items covered major Negro conventions, and other topics.
